The Best Plastic Surgeons are: Board Certified-- and have extensive experience. To become Board Certified an individual must complete Medical School-- surgical residency---this usually requires approximately 8-9 years after college.

Then, the individual must then complete an additional 2-3 years of Plastic Surgery Training. This then creates an individual who is Board eligible. The next 2 years are spent fulfilling the case requirements which will allow the individual to be tested and hopefully become Board Certified.
Beyond Board Certification and just as important is experience. The only way a surgeon can get this experience is to be in private practice. It is similar to any other complex skill-- it requires doing it over and over again. The training creates an anatomic expert who now is qualified to perform these complex surgical procedures. So, make sure to ask your doctor how many of the procedures you are seeking he/she has performed.
